Receiving an email to inform you that there’s a new review on your Facebook page is an exciting moment for any business owner. It’s always nice to hear what customers think, and positive reviews are a great, organic way to build trust with potential new clients. Even better, the review is five stars! You follow the link to Facebook to read this shiny new testimonial, and you’re met with confusion… and disappointment.
Instead of praising your team’s speedy customer service or affordable prices, the review discusses investment and cryptocurrency services that you don’t offer. It’s confusingly written, has nothing to do with your business, and is posted by somebody you’ve never heard of. A classic example of unwanted spam.
You keep scrolling, only to find out that this isn’t the only review of its kind. They’ve sprouted like weeds all over your page. In fact, they may even outnumber your reviews from legitimate customers.
If this sounds like your situation, you’re not alone. As of 2023, spam reviews on Facebook business pages have become a big problem. Keep reading to find out how to take action — and take your page back!
Report The Review
Unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t let page admins remove reviews independently, but anyone can mark a fraudulent review for deletion by reporting it. Click the three dots in the top right corner of the review and then click “report post” at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Another menu will pop up so you can choose the reason for your report. Select “spam” and wait for the next menu.
After that, you’ll just have to click the blue “submit” button to send your report to Facebook’s admins. Facebook will also prompt you to block the user to avoid further interaction.
If you want to increase the likelihood of a speedy response, encourage a few of your other employees to follow these steps. More reports will increase Facebook’s visibility of your problem.
Stay Calm
Facebook tends to take about three days to respond to spam reports, but keep in mind that the process may take longer. In the meantime, you’ve got to play the waiting game.
Although it’s stressful to have fraudulent reviews on your page, try to stay calm. Spam is commonplace now — it’s in our email inboxes, our search engine results, and even in our text messages. Trust that your customers will be able to differentiate fake reviews from real reviews and that they won’t blame you for the issue. Be patient, focus your time on something else, and the reviews will be gone before you know it.
Stay On Top Of It
To avoid further spam, make sure you (or another member of your team) are monitoring new reviews. You can set up your notifications so that Facebook sends you an email whenever you receive a new one. This is not only a great way to catch fraudulent reviews, but to remember to respond to legitimate ones! For further reading on this topic, check out our blog on handling negative reviews.
