Earlier this month (Tuesday, June 8 – Thursday, June 10) Facebook and Instagram piloted their first-ever joint Creator Week, a three-day event geared towards emerging creators that featured virtual professional development programs, product news, and special guest appearances.
On day one, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new native affiliate tool for Instagram creators to earn commission on in-app purchases. This tool, to be tested in the coming months, will enable creators to recommend products that are purchasable within the app, share them with their followers, and earn commission on resulting conversions that their posts drive.
“Affiliate will make it possible for creators to get fairly compensated for seamlessly sharing product recommendations, as well as make it easier for people to find products they love,” shared Instagram.
An additional update, available now for all users, allows creators to link shops (ex: Shopify) to personal profiles. Previously only accessible to business profiles, this feature update will open up opportunities not only for creators, but for brands and shoppers as well.
